“The EU wants to have all private chats, messages, and emails automatically searched for suspicious content, generally and indiscriminately. The stated aim: To prosecute child pornography. The result: Mass surveillance through fully automated real-time messaging and chat control and the end of secrecy of digital correspondence.” – Messaging and Chat Control: The End of the Privacy of Digital Correspondence, by Patrick Breyer, @echo_pbreyer

Which is very hard to do in real life since e2e encryption and almost endless number of possible communications apps...

On the contrary, it will be easy: it will be made illegal, and then you just can’t find end-to-end encrypted chat clients on Apple’s and Google’s stores, the Internet service providers will be forced to block the domains. And immediately, your user base shrinks to 1%, it all being useless to ordinary people but criminals will continue to find ways to communicate securely. In any case, that’s what I want to prevent. Far too many people like the security aspects of the Chinese system. Ugh!

Exactly, so that is why I am thinking that it is not something any government wants. It would only block 99% of the population that does not do anything (or at least not too much) illegal. And it would only piss regular people - maybe not many of them, but politicians are still a bit afraid of elections, so...
Not something I want, I just do not think that it is something for a newar future.

Hah, I hope the politicians see it the same way!
