2019-09-25 RAM doubled on this VM

A few days ago I received an email: if I power cycled the VM all my sites are running on, I’d get my RAM doubled for no reason. Ohhhh, cool! But...

Power cycling my server always scares me – but they promised to double my RAM if I did it… What to do! What to do? What to do‽ 😨

I did it.

Monit shows all the processes restarting

Or did it? Anyway, I did it again, but this time I really did a power toggle.

And it seems to have worked.

Munin shows RAM going from 3GB to 6GB

Committed memory is, essentially, all the memory which has been allocated by applications, whether it’s used or not. In contrast, the “apps” is memory that is allocated AND used.

OK! Lots of unused memory allocated to apps... Looks like I have a ton of dead apps hanging around or something?

No idea how that compares to others.
