A few days ago, I complained to Salt, my phone service my provider, regarding a 5.-/month charge for services associated with a SIM card that I don’t use and that was given to me, free of charge. Sure, no problem, they said. You’ll get your money back with your next bill. I said that in order to prevent this from happening again, they could just lock this SIM card and they said they would—but later that day I discovered that my phone wasn’t receiving SMS and that I wasn’t able to make phone calls and that Google Maps wasn’t working... Ugh, they disabled the wrong SIM card!
The next day I walked in to shop, explained the situation, we had a laugh, and they enabled the SIM card again. They couldn’t disable the unused SIM card. I’d have to call this number and explain the situation. OK, I said. But since I’m not paying for it, I might as well keep it. Who knows.
The next day I noticed that I only had 3G reception instead of the usual 4G. And the day after that, same thing. Enough is enough, I called them today and explained the situation. They said they’d block me from the Internet, and unblock me again, and perhaps that would solve it. And also, they said I was using an old SIM card that had been cut (?) to fit the nano SIM card slot on my iPhone 6s and that I should get it replaced.
Helpfully, they explained how to order this replacement from the website, for free. I chuckled and promptly forgot half the instructions and thus it took me about *half an hour* to find the stupid menu on their website. That’s how bad it was, and the person the help line knew about it, and tried to help me, but I had failed.
What did I learn? Fuck if I know.
Experiencing the net on 3G is interesting, I guess.
