The key to the doppelgänger entry is this: “The number of doppelgängers living among us humans remains unknown.”
Ok, I really don’t want to switch app for the monster manual, but I felt that I needed to do some doodling before starting the next monster, the Doppelgänger. It’s not just a shape shifter. It kills people and takes their place! First I just wanted to draw a friendly face, but that wouldn’t do. Then I thought of a grey alien 👽 type. Not good either. So I needed to doodle. A Doppelgänger caught in the act of assuming the form of its victim! And since I recently bought **Art Set**, I decided I’d try that. Still limiting the palette to black and red. Now that i look at the scene, I like it. If only I can make plausible, that the monster is *assuming* (sucking?) the shape of its victim. Time to try ink – using the **Zen Brush 2** app!

Changelings in Palladium FRP, too. They inspire paranoia.

I was wondering whether to add changelings as a separate monster. But then I wondered: what kind of new adventures would immediately suggest itself and I couldn’t think of any. Unless you are thinking of faeries kid napping human babies and leaving changelings behind. But then the changeling doesn’t need an entry in the monster manual, faeries do. Or perhaps the changelings you mention are just like shape changers, but they all have their own special powers like vampires?

No. The version in Palladium is like a Doppelganger, but the cultural notes are different, less alien, and more ... of an impersonator species that needs humans.

Thanks for the clarification. An “an impersonator species that needs humans” sounds great. My biologist heart wondered about Doppelgänger reproduction. Needing humans, that would explain a lot…
