Since we very much enjoyed yesterday’s hike, we decided to go for another one. I wanted to see the sea and feel some sand between my toes, and remembering my walk around the Beara peninsula nineteen years ago, we opted for a hike along the Dingle peninsula. We parked the car in Ventry and followed the trail. We loved the beach, the hedges, the sheep meadows, the sea, but we did not enjoy the section along the road, nor the thick fog that prevented us from enjoying the—apparently amazing—view. In addition to that, the walk took quite a bit longer than expected and was dreading the walk back. When we arrived at the destination I decided to try and hitch a ride. Nineteen years ago I was amazed at how friendly the Irish were. Today was no exception. The first two cars going in the right direction and having the necessary space stopped and offered us a ride.
Thank you very much! I love the west coast!
What followed was a long drive to Limerick. We arrived, spent half an hour in the pool and sauna, and went looking for a late dinner with some traditional Irish music. We basically walked around the entire old town, but we were too late for dinner and the music was not traditional. We ended up in Burger King with no music at all. Bummer!
Now I’m sitting on the balcony, enjoying some berries offered by the hotel overlooking the river, with excellent wifi. Everything is forgiven.
We liked the Limerick Strand Hotel. Every room comes with a balcony. There is a glass wall separating the balconies from the rain outside. The result is eerie because the balconies are all connected via the air circulating between the inner brick wall and the outer glass wall.
