2011-07-11 Getting the Mac Mini to boot

Somehow a software update managed to stop my Mac Mini from booting. It’s stuck in the light gray background and dark grey apple logo screen — and I restarted it twice, now. Slowly, I’m starting to worry.

hit cmd-v to boot in verbose mode.
– Harald Wagener

It ends in the following:

Bug: launchctl.c:3557 ...
Running rack on the boot volume...
Executing fsck_hfs ...
launchctl: Please convert the following to launchd: /etc/mach_init.d/dashboardadvisoryd.plist

Strange. I’ll try cmd-s...

Single user boot works... Going to try `fsck` manually.

`/sbin/fsck -fy` is running at the moment.

“The volume ... appears to be ok.”

Booting safe mode...

Running Disk Utility, verifying disk. Looks like `fsck` output. 😄 Will try repair disk permissions next and reboot.

Wohooo… problem fixed!
