2011-05-09 Benefits of Multiple Parties

A week or two ago I wrote about running multiple parties in the same campaign region and focused on synchronizing the passage of time for the various parties.

synchronizing the passage of time

Recently I experienced a wonderful benefit of the system:

1. Party A has a dwarf that befriends a bard, gives her some money, and leaves on a long adventure

2. I decide that the bard leaves as well but writes a letter to her benefactor and hands it to the local tavern keeper for delivery

3. Party B has a curious thief that hears of the letter and notices it behind the counter and convinces the rest of the party to steal it

4. The party reads the letter, finds nothing of interest, finds it tricky to return the letter to its place, and decides to forget about it

5. Party A returns to the village and I inform them that the inn keeper apologizes profusely and reports the stolen letter, content unknown

6. Dwarf player from party A decides to set a bounty on the letter as well as the thief from party B – dead or alive

I love it!
