Jeff asks how much time passes between sessions.

how much time passes between sessions

All my current games continue right where the last session left off. Players will sometimes decide to let a few days pass in game, such as when magic items need to be created, when there are injuries that have no magical healing, or when the party got split in previous sessions (or players were not present) and now they need some time to catch up in order to make the entire thing a bit more believable.

I’d like to give Gary’s rule from page 37 in the “Time In The Campaign” section a try: *it is best to use 1 actual day = 1 game day when no play is happening*.

I’d also like to try the Table of Despair, but this hands responsibility for session timing off to the players. Somehow I don’t feel comfortable about that, but I can’t tell you why.

Al asks what character level is considered to be powerful in our campaigns. Like many of the comments I run a low level campaign. In the Lenap region of *The Wilderlands of High Fantasy* most town leaders are somewhere between level five and ten. All the towns can potentially be taken over by player characters.

When improvising, I use the following guidelines:

+-------+--------------------------------+
| Level | Role |
+-------+--------------------------------+
| 0 | ordinary people |
| 1 | veterans of a real war |
| 3 | captain, leader of two dozen |
| | men |
| 5 | military leader of a town |
| 7 | second in commands |
| 9 | lord over a few miles of land |
| 12 | mighty wizards |
