One Page Dungeon Contest
- Raid on Black Goat Wood by Shane Mangus. The sage said that in order to get one of their questions answered, they would have to rid the forest of the dark satyr blight. The party agreed and wandered deeper into the corrupted forest, avoiding a shrieker fungus and a brown mold, finding a dead dark satyr full of rot grubs (and pocketing two of them) near a black hole in the ground and getting attacked by an ochre jelly. The party fought hard, the barbarian dwarf tried to save the goblin priest of Nergal, and managed to throw the dying corpse back to safety before falling victim to the jelly. The party decided to retreat and investigate another day. They also had the elves reincarnated the dwarf as a halfling, but that’s a different story...
- The Ominous Portent of the Highlands Meteor by Tim Hensley. The sage also wanted a piece of the meteor that had fallen in the Molting Mountains. Near the cave entrance they fought an umber hulk (I had added this one to my wandering monster table). Thanks to *entangle* and *flame arrow* they managed to kill it. The party was eleven characters, seven player characters and various cohorts. The average player character level was around four, I think. They observe two orcs arriving, and two more umber hulks leaving (yes, I had added more). They rest some more and decide to talk to the next orc patrol. The goblin bard has altered himself using magic to look like a half-elf and decides to talk to them. The orcs feign interest and overwhelm him, happy to have found a slave so soon. The rest of the party is confused. Was that the plan? The haughty bard hadn’t even told them what he wanted. But his hands signaled “don’t worry, just follow us” – and with that the bard disappeared into the cave. Little did they know that the aliens inside where neogi slavers that dominated both orcs and goblin bard! The party waited for the two umber hulks to return (?) and tried to sneak into the cave a bit later, killed the two orc guards, the first one around the corner got trapped in the stasis field and peppered with arrows, the other characters start shooting, most orcs run to fetch help, the party frees the one in the stasis field, the two umber hulks appear, the party runs, huge fight outside with entanglement and grease saving the day. The umber hulks die, and then an orc appears and offers to parley. The orc offers their comrade back, jewels worth 2000gp for their pains, and a “door sized piece of the meteor” for the sage. The party agrees and gets their comrade back, jewels worth 2000gp, and a metal door with rounded corners and a very complicated lock involving many turning wheels. A spaceship door. 😄

I think we see a pattern emerge: Instead of playing entire One Page Dungeons, I place them on the map and the party approaches them, achieves some partial objectives, obtains some info, leaves again, plans to return at a later date, etc. I love it. ❤ :D
