Is there an elisp package for rcirc to merge nicks locally and to treat them as one – Pidgin does, for example – including showing a local alias (eg. their full name) instead of their nicks, nominating one of the nicks as the primary to use when targeted? That would be cool for Bitlbee! It would also work for ordinary IRC but it’d be far less usefull, I assume.

Suspicious how rcirc-alias.el shows up so quickly after you posed this question. Too bad I use XChat... nick coalescing is something useful.

Hehe. 😄
I also found that bitlbee supports a *rename* command. But that means the aliases don’t reside in my local config files. I like them to be in an init file that I can easily share between machines. Perhaps a connect script that does thirty renames upon connecting.
