I’ve been a happy user of the Delicious Bookmarking Firefox Extension for a long time. Recently it started locking up my Firefox 2 upon startup. I assume that the synchronization code had a bug or something. Thus, I’m looking for an alternative. Magnolia seems to be an alternative.
I’ve looked at some bookmarklets, I’ve found a Firefox extension – but how do I get my data from Delicious into Magnolia?
Migrating from del.icio.us to Magnolia by Rubenerd seems to be the answer. 👌

One thing I’m curious to see is keyword support. A number of my bookmarks have a keyword associate with them. “leo prurience” (to quote a recent example) will take me to a famous English ↔ German translation site. This info seems to be gone, now. 🙁
Ok, I migrated my bookmarks to Magnolia. I installed an add-on that allows me to quickly add bookmarks. But how do I find them? The website itself seems slow and cumbersome. What a bummer.

I have had no problems with the official del.icio.us addon in firefox 3. I would stick to it. Firefox keywords support is a must have for me, too. For searching in my bookmarks I use the incsearch addon https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5294 → it’s very fast!

Yeah, del.icio.us on Firefox 3 works. My problem is that on the ol’ laptop I’m stuck with Mac OS 10.3, which only supports Firefox 2. That explains why I keep wrestling with these issues again and again. I’m trying to squeeze as much life out of this laptop as possible. And when it’s hopeless, I’ll try and switch to GNU Linux or a real BSD system.

From the Magnolia website: “Early on the West-coast morning of Friday, January 30th, Ma.gnolia experienced every web service’s worst nightmare: data corruption and loss. For Ma.gnolia, this means that the service is offline and members’ bookmarks are unavailable, both through the website itself and the API. As I evaluate recovery options, I can’t provide a certain timeline or prognosis as to to when or to what degree Ma.gnolia or your bookmarks will return; only that this process will take days, not hours.”
I think I’m going back to Delicious. I never really understood how I was supposed to search for bookmarks using Magnolia anyway... Using the website!?
