Argh, mega-dungeons!! Do I hate them? Do I love them? I’ve never played in them! 😒

I think what I’m missing is a group willing to go from level 1 to 15 or more in a dungeon crawl... πŸ˜„

I think I’d enjoying creating and playing a pure dungeon crawler character. Pure power gamer, mapped well in advance from 1st until 20th level, and completely proficient in converting living, breathing dungeon ecosystems into deserted tombs and silent spaces. *sigh*... if only I had the time.

Eye of the Beholder is another one. It was adapted to a Neverwinter Nights addons. I played it once but never finished it. Was okay, too.

One thing is certain. We have enough D&D 3.5 material to last us a while. πŸ˜„

There is always Undermountain πŸ˜„ I briefly ran parts of Tomb of Abysthor, but never really got into it.

Dungeon crawling is great, so long as everyone understands what to expect (devious traps, annoying riddles, lots of wandering monsters) and has seriously min-maxed their characters, since they tend to be brutal.

Hm, do you remember what the problem with Tomb of Abysthor was? I can imagine getting fed up with the spells and abilities from that Sword & Sorcery book. Other than that I have heard but good stuff about it. Perhaps the most important thing is to not run *just* Tomb of Abysthor but something else in parallel.

There are a couple of small things, like insanely dangerous encounters in the early parts of the dungeon, which are presumably for 2nd-3rd level characters (but this is supposed to be a pseudo-old school dungeon, so it is to be expected, and the DM is supposed to drop hints about not going near these areas). I guess I never got into the story or theme of the dungeon, but then again I was trying to use the module as a jumping off point for a campaign, rather than as a good old-fashioned dungeon crawl. I might view it very differently as a player.

Well, we probably have two years to spend on ShackledCity, so who knows what we’ll be doing by then... πŸ˜„
