2007-10-19 Ebay

I’ve started bidding for Planescape material on Ebay.com; shipping to Switzerland is apparently often a problem. And the stuff ain’t cheap. I’ve resigned myself to paying around $30 for a boxed set plus about $20 for shipping. Gah!

• Update*: It seems like I won three bids!

• 2600 Planescape Campaign Setting Box Set
• 2603 Planescape Planes of Chaos
• 2615 Planescape Planes of Conflict

I bought them for more or less CAD 30 each, and I’m expecting another CAD 20-30 for packaging & shipping.

I am totally afraid of getting cheated.

Oh and if my Monday group does end up on Celestia, I’ll need Planes of Law, too! :D

• Update*: I looked at getting 2607 Planescape Planes of Law via Ebay. I bid up to USD 36 (knowing that shipping was going to cost me USD 26.40 + USD 10.15 for registration. Yikes. And I was outbid. Next I looked at some second hand bookshops... Amazon Marketplace, Alibris, AbeBooks... And I found a cheaper option on Abebooks! USD 36.99 + USD 19.50 for shipping – and that includes fast shipping (6-8 business days). Cool. Now that I know about the USPS rates I wonder how they manage to offer such low rates. They probably get better conditions for being a very good customer. Let’s just hope it works as expected.

2nd hand bookshops still rule. Buying was much less hassle than the auction stuff.

• Update*: Oh no... I’m being trapped by the 2nd hand bookshop conspiracy! I was forced to order some more books:

• Planar Handbook
• Manual of the Planes
• Lords of Madness

I guess once I decided that I was going to spend money on 2nd edition material, I might as well buy some 3rd edition material, even though 4th edition is slated for May & June 2008.

• Update*: Somebody is selling a complete Planescape collection on Ebay. It started at USD 200. I bowed out at USD 335. Last time I looked the price had reached USD 455. Wow!

• Update*: The winning bid was USD 545.69. The seller said that he “was expecting more along the lines of $650-$800”.

Obviously I did not know what I was getting into. 😄
