We went to see Persepolis (2007). This is the movie based on the comic Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi – growing up as a girl in Teheran, Vienna, and Paris. Similar in style to other biographic and autobiographic comics like Barefoot Gen by Keiji Nakazawa terrible things are told through the eyes of a child. In a way, this makes it easier to bear. The movie’s style is an excellent transposition of the comic’s original naïve style and supports the child perspective very well.
Barefoot Gen by Keiji Nakazawa
Recommended – both as a good story and as an interesting example of media change. This is something I usually view with a lot of scepticism. It was, after all, my main criticism towards *The Lord of the Rings*. I felt that a story well told in a book does not necessarily make a good movie, because tempo varies, books need lots of details, where as movies need lots of dialog. But BooksToMovies worked quite well for *Persepolis*.
