2007-08-31 Opt Out

Hm, the latest SourceForge mail led me to Network Advertising Opt Out. What that means is that you opt out of the *tracking*. It doesn’t mean you stop seeing ads. But the ads will no longer be targeted.

Network Advertising Opt Out

And to be honest, the only thing that interests me when it comes to ads is that they reflect the society we live in. They are the artefacts left behind by the passing of our civilzation, a testament to our Zeitgeist.

Just last night, I was rewatching a documentary I had seen before about the intersection of advertising and culture. It’s by Sut Jhally and put out by the Media Education Foundation in their consumerism series. It actually does a better analysis of the environmental crisis than Al Gore did in his Academy-award winning documentary.

You should look them up sometime. University libraries in the States usually have them in their media libraries.
