Vanilla Sky (2001) was an interesting movie. It had better treatment of virtual reality than any other movie I know. Too bad I don’t like Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz as actors. (I love Penelope Cruz as an actor.) Great soundtrack: Radiohead, REM, Sigur Rós, U2, Sinéad O’Connor – and many more…

Didn’t you think it was a bit void of any real plot? Maybe I’m getting it confused with “Minority Report”, also starring Tom Cruise. You mentioned Virtual Reality which is also in the latter film and the reason I’m getting them confused. Also, I watched them a long time ago.
Check out the Spanish version of the film, too, “Abre Los Ojos”. I recall it also starts Penelope Cruz.

Yeah, I’m tempted to look for Abre Los Ojos (1997). The first user review on IMDB says “So superior to Vanilla Sky that you have to see it to believe it.” 😄
I mentioned virtual reality because at the end it is revealed that the second half of the movie is in fact the dream of one of these guys waiting for a better future in cryogenic sleep. And yes, I guess there’s a distinct lack of “action” but enough change in atmosphere to keep me interested. There’s the thread of the murderer and the psychologist, there’s the new-found love, there’s nightmare flashbacks, there’s strange changes in the relationship with doctors, all of it kept me interested and wanting to see more of it. There was a beginning, a climax, an end – in that sense, there was enough of a plot for me.
