2006-12-13 Japanese Source Texts

For my roleplaying pleasure, I’m reading through some Japanese folk tales. Basically I’m using Japanische Volksmärchen by Horst Hammitzsch (Hrsg) at the moment. Today I stumbled upon the Texts website. They have all sorts of texts, including various Nō plays such as Ukai or translations of the Qur’an and the Hadith – but they basically want you to purchase a CD costing around USD 40. How strange. Did he produce these e-Books? Or did he use texts from the Gutenberg Project?

While googling for “Ukai” I ended up on the QuirkyJapan website. Should I ever visit Japan, I’ll have to come back and study it in detail. 😄

Some more googling found the list of suggested literature to read for degree in Japanology at a German university (Studienberatung Japanlogie Uni Trier). Also something to come back to if I want to learn more about Japan. Then again, I haven’t finished The Making of Modern Japan by Jansen.
