2006-07-22 Ultima

LionKimbro talked about virtues, and I pointed him at Ultima IV. He then responded with another post about Ultima IV in particular. Following some links, I found the following sites:

xu4 – Ultima 4 recreated. It’s available for Windows, MacOS X, Linux and more. I think this is far better than playing it on the C64 emulator Vice, where you still have to “insert disks” when entering towns or dungeons. That’s too much trouble.
Exult – Ultima 7, same idea. I still remember having the game, but not having a computer to play it on. When I finally got a computer again, it was too fast for the game. A timing bug made it impossible to play on the new hardware. What a disappointment.
Pentagram – Ultima 8, same idea. This one seems rather unfinished at the moment, according to their homepage. And dto suggested that it wasn’t as good as the others.

I feel like playing Ultima 4!! 😄

After visiting the gypsy I end up in Britain, since I favored compassion over all other virtues. Just as I did I don’t know how many years ago. I think I was twelve when I first saw Ultima 4. Can this be true, over twenty years?

And already Julia and Mariah have joined my party, and I got my own ship! 😄

And I enjoy reading the manuals that come with the game.

Got seven people in my party already, I am level six, need more money to buy the sextant, got six runes, need to do some meditating, still haven’t got a single stone and haven’t been to a dungeon. Amazing: I’m still enjoying this game very much!

Yep, Ultima 4 via xu4. Das Original wurde von Origin übrigens kostenlos zur Verfügung gestellt. xu4 verwendet einfach eine Cross-Platform Library für den Engine und die Originaldaten, um das Spiel auch auf Linux und OS X zum Laufen zu bringen. Ich spiele es auf meinem alten iBook. 😄
