A lawsuit talking about two bands who signed contracts with Sony before music was being sold on the net, giving them 4½ cents per song sold. When music is sold online, it seems that bands get more money:
The suit, filed at a federal court in Manhattan, claims Sony has failed to live up to a contract requiring that it pay its musicians half of the net revenue it receives from licensing songs to download services like iTunes and Napster. ¹

If bands truly got half of the net revenue, I think the deal would not be all that bad for bands. But of course bands get cheated of their money most of the time anyway. Reminds me of the Courtney Love link I had on 2003-05-07 Music: Courtney Love does the math.
