More draconian over-the-top developments that might come to Europe soon enough:
Heise writes about a new bill proposed by Lamar Smith increasing the maximum fine for filesharing and other types of copyright violation to ten years. ¹ As if it weren’t ridiculous enough. I can’t understand how these people get elected. My hunch is that when today’s kids grow up, they’ll dump the entire intellectual property garbage out the window, because they’ve been burnt so badly by the music industry.
At least I don’t know of a single person amongst my friends and coworkers who likes, condones, sympathizes or otherwise appreciates what the music industry is doing.
How can an industry built on fear be viable in the long run?
