I consider the summary of the enemy combatant numbers in Guantánamo and the charges against them published by TelePolis a terrible shame for the USA. ¹
The article has some selected quotes such as “If you think of the people down there, these are people, all of whom were captured on a battlefield. They’re terrorists, trainers, bomb makers, recruiters, financiers, [Osama bin Laden’s] bodyguards, would-be suicide bombers, probably the 20th 9/11 hijacker.” – Donald Rumsfeld, 2005-06-27
These statements are juxtaposed with some data: A report from Seton Hall University says “The majority of prisoners at the Guantanamo Bay naval base are not accused of committing hostile acts against the United States or its allies, and only a small percentage were captured by U.S. forces, a review of government documents has found.” according to Reuters. ²
I strongly recommend the Reuters link. The numbers are terrifying.
