Heise writes about the decision to store a lot of contact information: Email headers, logs, mobile phone positions, etc. ¹ Using this paper, national legislation will have to implement the next step towards the police state. This is not a TransparentSociety where everybody can watch everybody. Instead, the police will be unwatched and big corporations will try to bend the law to their will by redefining copyright violations as a serious criminal offense.
Sickening! And I thought that this was going to be a tight one. Not so! 387 to 204. We are truly getting what we are deserving. Argh!

14-12-2005: The European Parliament has adopted the directive on data retention. The amendments were approved by 387 votes in favour to 204 against with 29. The final resolution was adopted by 378 votes in favour to 197 against with 30 abstentions.
