Joe Gregorio’s Sparklines is not only about the source code to create so-called Sparklines, it is also a web-service. Neato! And no, it’s not some weirdo web-service as redefined from the “enterprise software” headz, it’s a typical web-service: A plain CGI script that returns data with the appropriate content-type and content-lenght. I think these kind of web-services will work even though I ranted against Web 2.0 hype on 2005-09-25 Web. What’s the difference?
Joe’s web-service is something you can try out. Most importantly: If service quality is important to you, you don’t want to rely on Joe’s resources. You want to install it on your own servers, you want to fix the bugs you find, and add the features you want. And you can, because it is free software.
