I think my decision to opt out of the WSIS process some time ago was correct. Heise writes about the growing realization everywhere, that the summit will be essentially without effects. ¹ At the time I was frustrated with the Swiss government that did not want to suggest anything for the summit that they did not already pursue on the national level. As if Switzerland was already the glorious centre of the information society. So instead of prescribing where we want to go, instead of developing a vision, a description of the status quo, the lowest common demoninator is being written. The fact that part two of the summit is going to be in Tunesia, a country with an abysmal human rights record as we’re now starting to see, is just one of the many nails in its coffin.

The only positive thing is that the NGO’s decicated quite some resources into drafting the alternative documents. *Those* documents tell us what we need to know. This is where we’re going to look for vision and guidance, if at anywhere.
