I wasted at least an hour, trying to buy train tickets online today. After having assembled my itinerary, I found that I could not buy the ticket unless I registered. The money alone is not enough!? I had to enter my personal data, the reference number from my abonnement, only to find that my personal data was already in the system. I had to pick a so-called “secure” password, requiring me to think up some random string that I will be requesting by email if I ever have to type it again. And when I was finally done, I found that the system had lost my itinerary. So now, one aggravating hour later, I have decided to abort this futile struggle with the kafkaesque software. I wrote them an angry email asking them to spend more money on usability testing and decided to go the station instead. There, I’ll have to wait for ten minutes in the queue, but at least I can read the newspaper, I’ll go for a little walk, and I’ll talk to a human being.
