TelePolis writes about the recent wave of dissuasion letters reaching a lot of website owners linking to allofmp3 in Russia. Notice how I don’t link to it. It is illegal in Germany, and therefore linking to it can be construed as advertizing for it, etc. A sad story, really. ¹
Heise reported earlier that AllOfMP3 is legal and will remain legal in Russia. ²
I think that is a good thing, because it will serve as permanent thorn in the music industry’s side reminding them of what failure their “protect, control, and lots of marketing” business plan really is.
Apple is asking for USD 1 per song – that’s more than USD 10 per average CD, without employees in record shops helping you out with some advice, without CD players to listen to the stuff you might like, without having to rent shelf-space, without having to press the CDs, print the booklets, buy the jewel cases, put it all together, package it, transport it, move it about, pay all the people involved, etc. In short, it’s a total rip-off.
