I just read a post from Riverbend after a long hiatus. Remember the hostage where a hundred or more civilians were taken hostage and half of the population was asked to leave as if it were ehtnic cleansing in the making? Apparently this was a complete fake – and there seem to be reasons to suspect that the Americans might have launched this rumor in order to be able and move into town and “do their thing” – you know, the stuff they learnt from Israeli military advisors about crowd control, war against terrorism, counter insurgency, house-to-house fighting, or whatever the jargon is...
So, what’s next after faking ethnic cleansing to ease control of the country?
Actually the “infiltration” of military jargon into our everyday language is scary. Happens in Germany, too. To describe something as totally boring and average, we use the term “null-acht-fünfzehn” – that is, 08/15. And guess what? That’s the serial number of the first all-German machine gun produced by the newly united Germany under Prussian control over a hundred years ago. I think. I should verify this again. Anyway, so many terms have “dual use” it’s scary.
