I’m still looking for an IRC client that will do the chat → speech thing for me. Maybe Conversation is what I’m looking for? Not free software, but freeware... Hm.

that should be easy enough to do with an emacs client and something like festival shouldnt it?

The founder and main contributor to the emacswiki, FSF member ​#894, not only chooses to use Apple’s proprietary softwares but is also announcing he is mowing away from emacs!

) – I used Emacs from coding, mail, and news. Then I stopped reading news and started IRC instead. Then I discovered that Thunderbird is a nice looking mail client. And I discovered that other IRC clients existed that did what I needed without me having to start Emacs. So these days I only start Emacs when I need to do some coding. And I do much less coding at home these days.
