Been playing *Beyond Good And Evil* again. It still is a great game. 😄
---
’’I almost cried at Ming-Tzu’s shop. The music and layout is just really incredible.__
- It made me wonder: “Will are world cultures ever produce anything this beautiful, ever again? Are we doomed to functionalist buildings, for ever and ever?*
- What’s scary is that I’m just looking at a cheap digital copy of the real thing, and feeling this way.*
- Overall, though, I’m shocked at how capable this game is of setting mood, and engaging you into the environment.*
- I frequently find myself working to get pictures “just right” – beyond what is required to get a good score.*
_I’ve observed my daughter playing “My Little Pony” and “Pokemon Channel,” and find myself wondering how to take these play_imagination/environment concepts, and putting them into our other games.__
- Imagine that we take nethack, and treat it as a simulation world, rather than as, say, the game that it is with the goal that it has. Would it be interesting to rip the nethack simulation to make a game in which you play a biologist, studying and documenting the lives of the creatures and settings within the game? What if we linked it with a drawing program, and made it so that players drew pictures of the Gnomish Mines, the Bee Hive, etc., and uploaded them to the above-ground academic world, for social scoring and placement?*
- I can think of a lot of possibilities.*
- The worlds of some games and stories establish themselves like rock in our minds.*
- We can build on them as a platform for other works, not just the first work to run through them.’’*
