I downloaded and recompiled mp3gain for my SlackWare system – no problem. When I run it on the files I got from WATS radio via StreamRipper, however, I see the following output:
Adolecentes - Amor mio.mp3 Adolecentes - Amor mio.mp3 is an MPEG Layer I file, not a layer III file
Hm? How strange! I guess this explains why K3b claimed that so many of my mp3 files could not be added to an audio CD. These files are not mp3 files!
I wonder: How can MP1 (?) files be automatically translated to MP3 files?
I suggest you use mencoder which comes with mplayer. I don’t know the exact command line option so you will need to read the mplayer man page a bit. Another possibilty is to use mpg123 or mpg321 or any other player that can play the file and output the song in an uncompressed format to sdout or to a file and give the result (pipe for instance) to a command line mp3 encoder (I don’t remember what I was using when I was trying this kind of things). – PierreGaston
