Found a table with the International Road-Crash Fatality Rates 1988-2002. In the US, the number was 14.9 deaths per 100,000 population. Assuming 300 million people in the US, that’s about 45,000 dead people.

Comparing it with the 3,000 dead in the WTC bombing, certainly drastic measures are warranted... I wonder if they’re going to use cluster bombs on the car industry, soon.
