Trying to cook a *Dal* for the the first time. Went to that Indian guy around the corner and bought some stuff.
Dal Use peanut oil (Erdnussöl), fry two spoons of jeera (Kreuzkümmel), one spoon of fennel seeds (Fenchelsamen), then add one onion in stripes (Zwiebel), one mashed (or finely cut) garlic (Knoblauch), one green jalapeño pepper (Peperoncino), curry leaves (Curryblätter), two cups of red lentils (Masoor Dal, rote Linsen), lots of water, a little crushed chili (Chilipulver), a spoon of turmeric powder (Gelbwurz, Kurkuma), two spoons of garam masala, and one spoon of spicy curry, salt. Cook. Eat. Drink. Fart. 😄
Note: When I did this, I was affraid to burn it, so I added water. A little too much, in fact, according to Claudia. And she eats lots of Dal with her Pakistani friend, so she must know. ;) I also served basmati rice – cooked with cinnamon (Zimt), cardamom (Kardamom), and clove (Gewürznelken).

W00t, this looks yummy. At least better than what I make 😃

Nice work Alex. My recipe is slightly different and I put in a small amount of tomatoes too. The salty/sour taste makes the whole thing better. YMMV ;)

Let me know about the difference so I can experiment!

I like to stir some fresh chopped spinach into mine a minute before I serve it. The bright yellow (moong dal) and green look nice together.

I’ll have to try that. I tried with more carrots, but it got rather sweet.
