He describes how it feels to be constantly afraid, how it feels to be hated all the time, how it sucks away the energies he needs to feel *empathy*, and how empathy is what people need right now, how the war has taken away meaning from everything: “Iraq has spiraled into a dark place, much worse than where it was a year ago during the war.”
