I tried to rest, but SunirShah tempted me with a text he had written on MeatballWiki, LethalText, which talks about the emergence of consciousness as mentioned in the SciFi book SnowCrash.
Based on a recommendation from CDot on #wiki, I was then led on to a site on “How to Create a Golem”. ¹

Shame on me, being a zoologist and all, the anger carried me away! You are absolutely right. “Pathogens” might be general enough to apply to everything and everybody, while making sure it is some external cause (and not your own fault). Very handy. 🤓
