TelePolis has an interesting (German) critique of Gibson’s *Passion of Christ*. ¹ The main problem seems to be that Gibson is using the movie to promote the ideas of the *Catholic Church* (not the catholic church with the pope in Rome, which would be bad enough!) – the church that disagrees with the second Vatican concil and believes all popes since John XXIII to be illegitimate. This, coupled with idea of some collective jewish guilt, is quite disgusting. I’d like to find a website for this church of Gibson’s. The Telepolis article claims that they still use the traditional roman rituals. I wonder which ones. Having read some chapters on the ancient christian church in Gibbon’s (note the small spelling difference ;)) *Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire* ².
