Riverbend also writes about the situation in Baghdad. ¹ The chosen director of the university is deposed by the CPA, because eventhough he is anti-Ba’athist, he is unwilling to fire all former Ba’athists from the faculty:

So he is fired as well, the faculty and students go on strike, a security service starts watching the university, there’s unrest (”Students have been annoyed because the campus security seem to be there not so much to ensure safety, but to watch the students.”). And then one day a student parks his car in a reserved parking lot, the security service guy starts arguing, the student argues back, a second security guy comes, some students come, knives are pulled, backup arrives, more students come, then the security guys open fire on the building, the police arives and fires warning shots, the security guys fire back... What a mess.
