Yesterday I played some Starfox Adventures for the Gamecube. I don’t play much on the consoles. IRC and MeatBall and OddMuse and EmacsWiki and books are sucking up all my free time. Playing just isn’t as much fun anymore.

Agreed; I experience the same thing. I programmed for game companies for 4 years, and I’ve been an avid gamer. But most of these games take 80 hours to beat, and they are *incredibly repetitive.*
I’d much rather play “Let’s write Free Software!” than manipulate non-programmable robots in a simple dungeon world.
That said: Gamecube’s multiplayer F-Zero GX is astonishing. If you see one Gamecube game, see that one.
