I bought a 2nd hand computer for my girlfriend, since she wants to “practise” with some proprietary software. It hurts...
So I partitioned the 8G drive to provide 4G for her and 4G for a Knoppix Debian GNU/Linux system ¹. It took me hours. First I did not want LILO but Grub instead, but then I found that the Grub info pages were not included. I then tried fudging it, then I tried to run LILO (I had skipped that step) without reinstalling the system, then I tried booting from both of my rescue systems on CD, and then I finally found out about the -r option to LILO and was able to do it.
Then I imagined supporting my mom as she installs the stuff. I don’t know. Perhaps non-geeks would just stick to the defaults.
Plus I made Sushi for guests twice these days, and everybody liked it. And I played Virtua Fighter 4 again with a friend. My thumbs are about to fall off.
