On a beautiful day, when the warm wind we call “Föhn” blows down from the mountains, you can see from Zürich at the northern tip of the lake accross the “Mittelland” (the Middle Land) to the high passes in the south.

This picture was taken from the Hotel Alexander website in Zürich¹. I am currently trying to track the author down. The info account at hotel-alexander.ch referrred me to the W Cubed agency, so I wrote some mail to the info account at w-cubed.com.

Here is the Limmatplatz close to where I live, on a beautiful Saturday morning in February 2003. On the following Sunday I decided to go for a walk and made more pictures. There is a five storey limit on all buildings, if I remember correctly, so no sky scrapers.

The river Limmat and the lake are always nice to see – people flock to the lake when the sun is shining.

Churches are important in Switzerland. We had – like many European countries – a bloody war between protestants and catholics. Zürich was protestant, inspired by Zwingli, to be exact. That means that churches are rather bright and empty. White walls, no paintings. In the Fraumünster there are five big colored glass works by Chagall. Very nice. Pic 1 shows the inside of the Fraumünster without glass works, pic 2 shows the Grossmünster on the other side of the river.

Even the big banks have small buildings by international standards. Here we are at the Paradeplatz, where – it is rumored – the gold of the Swiss is stored underground somewhere.

I like sculptures and trees...

– Hansruedi
